Temperature is really a matter of personal preference. Some people like the temperature at between 68 degrees to 70 degrees during the day and cooler than that during sleep.
Humidity measures the water content in the air. The human comfort extends from 30% to 70% relative humidity with variations between individuals. To protect the home against mold and dust mites a level no higher than 50% is required so 45% to 50% is a good target to aim for.
Carbon dioxide is not usually found at levels that arehazardous in environment indoors. It is rare to find high levels continuously indoors. These values were established for healthy adults and may not be fitting for delicate populations, such as the elderly and very young children.
Occupants may experience health effects in buildings where CO2 is elevated, but the symptoms are usually due to the other air contaminants that also build up due toinsufficient ventilation. At levels that high, the carbon dioxide itself can cause an individual to develop headache, nausea, dizziness and other warning sign. This could happen when exposed to levels above or over 5,000 ppm for several hours.
TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compound)
Using any of the listed below products could expose people to very high pollutant levels. Concentrations that are elevated can remain high long after use. If you ventilate well after using these products, TVOC in your home should not be a problem. This will go up when there is any type of decorating for example decorating for the holiday. After finishing with holiday decorating it would be a good idea to do some air monitoring especially if any of these products were used:
- Paint thinners, paints, varnishes and any other solvents
- Aerosol sprays
- Air fresheners
- Candles and incense
- Cleaning supplies and disinfectants
- Hobby supplies
- Carpeting that is new
- Secondhand smoke
This is the amount of very small/fine soot and dust in the air. According to EPA this does not contribute to any deaths each year. PM2.5 is affected mostly by air quality.
Course sized such as dust and often this is affected mostly by outside air quality. These two factors do go up after there have been any holiday decorating.
