Pests and bugs have never ceased to be unwelcomed companions in the home. Some crawl on filth, therefore, spreading infections and diseases. Other rodents such as termites are destructive and annoying. Worse still, it is an established knowledge in the medical field that pests can trigger allergies and worsen the existing ones.

According to Alameda pest control professionals, there are specific rodents and bugs which are notorious for triggering allergic reactions. Below is a look at some of them.

  1. Bees, Wasps, and Hornets

The stings of these winged flies are very painful and fatal if not promptly attended to. Bee stings leave the skin swollen and irritated. If you are allergic, the stings of the bees can be a nightmare.  Avoid bees at all cost. When stung, seek medical attention immediately. Otherwise, you may black out and even die from the resulting sores.

  1. Cockroaches

Some people cringe at the sight of a cockroach. The rate of breeding of these ugly critters is too fast making them a real headache. But there is more to worry about.

  • Cockroach droppings, saliva, cast-off skins and decomposing bodies contain proteins that trigger and increase the severity of asthma attacks.
  • Cockroaches spread 33 kinds of disease-causing bacteria including salmonella and E. coli. According to the National Pest Management Association, they also carry along seven human pathogens and six parasitic worms.
  • Children have high sensitivity to cockroach allergens. The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences reported that one in five children in the US has extreme sensitivity to these allergens.

Cockroach allergies are common during cold seasons as they move into the home in search of warmth. Again, families spend more time indoors during such periods.

  1. Rodents

If you think rodents are just burrowing animals with sharp overdeveloped incisors and a penchant for destroying precious woodwork and grains, you need to read on.

Rodents are some of the largest crawling contaminants in your home. When they come into contact with your food, do not eat it. If you have to, book a session with your doctor first. Rodents produce saliva that irritates the skin causing rashes. The smell of their urine also aggravates the nasal cavity triggering sneezing. Unfortunately, over eighty percent of all homes have significant levels of rodents’ allergens.
