3 Reasons to Rent a Storage Unit in the Summer

As the world becomes more and more complicated, most people are looking for ways to simplify their daily personal lives. That is why lifestyles such as minimalism and Marie Kondo’s “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up” are having such a moment. Too much clutter around the house can lead to unnecessary stress and anxiety and can make you feel even less in control of your life.

Having a place to put some of these items is one of the reasons that people rent a storage unit. By renting a storage unit, you are more likely to live in an organized and airy home that only has the necessary possessions inside.

Additionally, here are three more reasons to rent a storage unit in the summer.

1. Because you are moving

One of the most common reasons to rent a storage unit in the summer is because you are about to embark on a move. Whether you are moving down the road or packing up all your stuff to go and travel the world for a year, having a storage unit can make a significant difference.

During the moving period, having a storage unit provides you with a place where you can quickly and securely store your items. Additionally, if you are moving to another location for work or are only living with the belongings in your suitcase, renting a storage unit means you don’t have to let go of all your belongings, but instead can come back to them when you return.

If you do opt to take a storage unit during your move, then make sure to work with a company that offers help with packing and transporting your possessions.

2. Because you are undergoing home renovations

Congratulations! You have bitten the bullet and are now beginning a partial or full home-renovation! Whether it is your first or fifth time undertaking a project like this, you are still going to go through many challenges, especially when it comes to daily life with the builders.

During this time, you want to do everything in your power to make the renovation as stress-free as possible for yourself, so you don’t find yourself only focusing on the refurbishment and ignoring other vital parts of your life.

To protect your fragile furnishings from damage, dust, and the like, opt to rent a storage unit where you can keep them. Not only will this ensure that your items are out of harm’s way, but it will also help the contractors and builders to get the job done faster so that they can finish the project they were hired to do without having to be overly cautious around your possessions.

3. Because you need somewhere to store your winter clothing

We all know the feeling. You open the doors to your closet, and even though there are plenty of items staring back at you, you still can’t put together an outfit that is different from the one you wore yesterday. The fact is that you do have clothes; you just can’t find the appropriate ones for today when they are hiding behind a whole load of items that aren’t appropriate.

This is why it is essential to re-jig your closet each season. By spending an afternoon every three months organizing, you can declutter and free up space in your wardrobe for pieces that you are going to want and be able to wear over the next few months.

The best scenario is to move the seasonally inappropriate pieces into a storage unit. Why should your ski jackets be blocking the view of your summer dresses? Does your whole family need their skis in the downstairs closet? When are you going to wear your faux fur vintage coats in the next few months? You get the point.

If you do decide to pack up your winter clothes and place them in storage, make sure you keep them in vacuum-sealed bags to be as space-efficient as possible. Also, make sure you keep a couple of transitional clothing pieces (such as light sweaters and pants) for the days that aren’t a heatwave.
